Berry Liqueurs

(37 products)

Raspberry liqueur is a sweet, deep red liqueur made by steeping raspberries in spirit, and Chambord's black raspberry bottle is the best-known example. We also carry framboise from Mathilde and Combier, crème de cassis, and blackberry liqueurs like Echte Kroatzbeere.

About Berry Liqueurs

Berry liqueurs capture raspberry, blackberry, black currant, blueberry and strawberry in a sweet, mixable form. The French crème tradition is the backbone of the category: framboise means raspberry, crème de cassis is black currant (the best known comes from Dijon in Burgundy), and crème de mûre is blackberry. The fruit is macerated in spirit for weeks, then pressed, sweetened and bottled.

Two serves show off the style. The Kir Royale tops a half ounce of crème de cassis, such as Marie Brizard Creme de Cassis de Dijon or Edmond Briottet, with chilled Champagne. The French Martini shakes vodka with pineapple juice and Chambord for a frothy, fruity drink. Blackberry fans can build a Bramble with gin, lemon and a drizzle of crème de mûre.

For sipping, pour Echte Kroatzbeere or Mathilde Framboise over ice after dinner, or spoon a little over vanilla ice cream. Combier also makes a respected cassis and framboise, and Pallini Raspicello offers an Italian take.

Berry Liqueurs FAQ

What is the best raspberry liqueur?

Chambord Liqueur is the most recognized raspberry liqueur and the go-to for French Martinis, thanks to its rich black raspberry flavor. For a brighter, more fruit-forward red raspberry style, try a French framboise such as Mathilde Framboise or Combier Framboise Liqueur, which both work well with sparkling wine.

What is crème de cassis?

Crème de cassis is a sweet black currant liqueur from France, traditionally associated with Dijon and Burgundy. It flavors two classic aperitifs, the Kir (with white wine) and the Kir Royale (with Champagne). Marie Brizard Creme de Cassis de Dijon and Edmond Briottet Creme de Cassis are classic examples.

What can I use instead of Chambord?

Any good black raspberry or framboise liqueur can stand in for Chambord in cocktails. Mr. Boston Black Raspberry is an easy everyday swap, while Joseph Cartron Framboise or Mathilde Framboise bring a fresher red raspberry character. Expect small differences in sweetness, so taste and adjust citrus as needed.

Is blackberry brandy the same as blackberry liqueur?

Not exactly. Blackberry brandy, like Hiram Walker Blackberry Brandy, is a sweetened, blackberry-flavored brandy with a long following in the Midwest for sipping and warm drinks. Blackberry liqueurs such as Echte Kroatzbeere Blackberry Liqueur or Edmond Briottet Creme de Mure focus more on the fruit itself and are often used in cocktails.
