Additive Free Tequila

(122 products)

Additive-free tequila is made the traditional way: 100% blue Weber agave, with none of the sweeteners, glycerin, caramel coloring, or oak extract that Mexican regulations allow producers to add without disclosure. The result is tequila that tastes like cooked agave and the place it was grown. Whether you prefer a crisp blanco, a rested reposado, or a rich añejo, every bottle in this collection has been verified additive-free.

Brands in this collection include Fortaleza, G4, El Tesoro, Tequila Ocho, LALO, ArteNOM, Siete Leguas, Wild Common, and Tapatío, along with smaller producers as we find them. Most are verified through Tequila Matchmaker's additive-free program; where a brand is not in that program we rely on the producer's own disclosure.

What to look for in additive-free tequila:

  • 100% de agave on the label: the baseline. Mixto tequilas (51% agave) are never additive-free.
  • NOM number: identifies the distillery. Several additive-free brands share a NOM, which is a good sign the distillery runs clean across its portfolio.
  • Production method: brick-oven cooking, tahona or roller-mill crushing, and open-air fermentation tend to produce more agave character than diffuser-made tequila.
  • Taste: cooked agave, citrus, pepper, and minerality in blancos; oak that supports rather than covers the agave in aged expressions. Heavy vanilla or a syrupy finish usually points to additives.

Additive-free bottles work neat, in a blanco-forward margarita, or as the base of a serious tequila flight. Explore the full Tequila range for everything else, including mezcal.
