Description

WhistlePig Limited Edition PiggyBank 10 Year Rye 1L is a 110-proof, 10-year-old straight rye whiskey presented in a collectible 1-liter ceramic pig decanter. Built on the same 100% rye foundation that earned the standard WhistlePig 10 Year 96 points from Wine Enthusiast, this limited edition turns the intensity up with an extra 10 proof and a distinctive wax-sealed vessel inspired by a 19th-century Berkshire Bitter Pig.

Quick Facts: ABV: 55% (110 Proof)  |  Origin: Shoreham, Vermont, USA  |  Age: 10 Years  |  Distillery: WhistlePig Distillery

Production & Heritage

WhistlePig Distillery was founded in 2007 by Raj Peter Bhakta on a 500-acre farm in Shoreham, Vermont. The PiggyBank expression uses whiskey distilled from a 100% rye mashbill at Alberta Distillers Limited in Calgary, Canada, then shipped to Vermont where it is aged, blended, and bottled on the farm. While the standard WhistlePig 10 Year is bottled at 100 proof, the PiggyBank release is dialed up to 110 proof, amplifying the grain's natural spice and depth without losing the refined character that has made WhistlePig one of the most decorated rye whiskey brands in the world.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Toasted cinnamon and baked vanilla rise first, followed by a layer of subtle cedar and a whiff of leather. The higher proof pushes more aromatic intensity compared to the standard bottling.

Taste: The entry is immediately warm with bold peppery rye spice that fans across the palate. Mid-palate, rich toffee sweetness and caramel balance the heat, while baking spice and nutmeg build toward a peak of char-kissed oak. A subtle hint of lemon zest and citrus peel weaves through, keeping the profile bright despite its barrel-proof weight.

Finish: Medium in length, the finish carries lingering rye pepper and toasted oak with gentle tannin that fades gradually. A final whisper of vanilla and cinnamon rounds out each sip cleanly.

How to Drink PiggyBank 10 Year

At 110 proof, this rye rewards a measured pour—try it neat first to appreciate the full spectrum of spice and sweetness, then add a few drops of water to open the caramel and citrus notes. The higher proof also makes it an exceptional cocktail anchor.

  • Manhattan: The amplified rye spice and toffee sweetness stand up to sweet vermouth without being buried, producing a rich, balanced drink.
  • Sazerac: The bold pepper and cinnamon character play naturally against absinthe and Peychaud's bitters, delivering a textbook New Orleans classic.
  • Vieux Carré: The extra proof and oak depth hold their own alongside Cognac and Bénédictine, adding backbone to this complex stirred cocktail.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does PiggyBank 10 Year taste like? It leads with bold black pepper and toasted cinnamon, transitions through caramel and toffee sweetness at mid-palate, and finishes with gentle oak tannin and a touch of citrus peel. The 110-proof strength amplifies every note compared to the standard 100-proof version.

How does PiggyBank 10 Year compare to the standard WhistlePig 10 Year? Both share the same 100% rye mashbill, 10-year age statement, and Vermont-based blending and bottling, but the PiggyBank is bottled at 110 proof versus 100 proof, delivering a bolder, spicier profile with more barrel influence. The PiggyBank also comes in a 1-liter ceramic decanter rather than a standard glass bottle, making it a limited-edition collectible.

Is PiggyBank 10 Year good for sipping neat? Yes—despite the higher proof, the 10 years of aging smooth out the heat considerably, and a splash of water further opens up the caramel and vanilla layers for a very approachable neat pour.

Where is PiggyBank 10 Year made? The whiskey is distilled from 100% rye grain at Alberta Distillers Limited in Calgary, Canada, then transported to WhistlePig's farm in Shoreham, Vermont, where it is aged, blended, and bottled.

What foods pair well with PiggyBank 10 Year? Smoked brisket or pulled pork complement the oak and pepper spice; aged cheddar mirrors the caramel sweetness; dark chocolate with sea salt echoes the toffee notes; pecan pie amplifies the baking spice character; and charcuterie with dried fruits provides a balance of savory and sweet against the rye's intensity.

What sizes does PiggyBank 10 Year come in? The PiggyBank limited edition is produced exclusively as a 1-liter ceramic decanter, distinguishing it from the standard WhistlePig 10 Year which is available in 750ml and other formats.

Is PiggyBank 10 Year worth the price? It positions as a premium limited-edition expression within the WhistlePig range, and the combination of a 10-year age statement, 110-proof bottling strength, and collectible ceramic decanter provides tangible differentiation over the standard release for enthusiasts willing to pay the premium.

Why PiggyBank 10 Year?

The PiggyBank release takes what is already one of the highest-rated rye whiskeys on the market—the 96-point WhistlePig 10 Year—and intensifies it by an additional 10 proof, extracting more barrel character and rye grain punch without sacrificing balance. The 1-liter format gives drinkers more liquid than a standard bottle, while the hand-wax-sealed ceramic pig decanter, modeled after a 19th-century Berkshire Bitter Pig, makes this as much a display piece as a drinking whiskey. As a limited release from a distillery widely regarded as the benchmark for American rye, bottles tend to become increasingly difficult to find once each production run sells through. For serious rye collectors and drinkers alike, it represents a tangible step up from the already excellent standard expression.
