Description

Trump Sauvignon Blanc is a Virginia Sauvignon Blanc from Trump Winery in the Monticello AVA near Charlottesville, in a 750ml bottle. Estate-grown in the Blue Ridge foothills, it is a crisp, aromatic white with citrus, green fruit and herbal notes, made in a fresh style with no heavy oak.

Quick Facts: Origin: Monticello AVA, Virginia, USA | Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc | Style: Dry White Wine | Producer: Trump Winery

Production & Heritage

Trump Winery sits on the former Kluge Estate south of Charlottesville, Virginia, one of the largest vineyard properties on the East Coast, purchased in 2011 and run by Eric Trump. The Monticello AVA takes its name from Thomas Jefferson's nearby home, where Jefferson made the first serious attempt to grow European wine grapes in America. Sauvignon Blanc is a relatively recent success in Virginia: the grape thrives on the estate's well-drained slopes, where warm days build ripe citrus flavor and cool nights preserve the acidity and aromatic lift the variety is known for. The fruit is picked early to keep the wine bright, pressed gently and fermented cool in stainless steel, then bottled young. The result is a clean, zesty Sauvignon Blanc that sits stylistically between the grassy wines of New Zealand and the rounder examples of California.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Grapefruit, lime zest and green apple, with fresh-cut grass, white peach and a hint of jalapeno and elderflower.

Taste: Light to medium-bodied, crisp and dry, with citrus and green melon fruit, a grassy herbal note and bright, mouthwatering acidity. The stainless-steel winemaking keeps it clean and lively.

Finish: Medium length, refreshing and citrusy, with a lingering mineral note and a faint herbal bite.

How to Drink Trump Sauvignon Blanc

Serve Trump Sauvignon Blanc well chilled, around 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit, in a white wine glass. It is an ideal aperitif on a warm evening and a natural with lighter food: goat cheese salad, grilled shrimp or oysters, and chicken piccata with lemon and capers all suit its acidity. It also works in a white wine spritzer or as a stand-in for the white in a batch of summer sangria. Drink it within a year or two of release, while the citrus and grassy aromatics are at their most vivid.

Best For

  • Summer sipping on the porch or by the pool
  • Seafood, salads and goat cheese
  • Virginia wine fans and East Coast tasting flights
  • A crisp, affordable white for parties and brunch

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Trump Sauvignon Blanc taste like? It tastes of grapefruit, lime and green apple with fresh grass, white peach and a touch of elderflower, finishing crisp and dry with bright acidity.

How does Trump Sauvignon Blanc compare to New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc? New Zealand examples from Marlborough are usually louder, with intense passion fruit and grassy aromas. The Virginia wine is more restrained, with citrus and green apple rather than tropical fruit, and a slightly rounder texture.

Is Trump Sauvignon Blanc good for cocktails? Yes. Its citrus-driven acidity works well in spritzers, white sangria and wine-based punches, and it can replace dry vermouth in a light wine cocktail.

Where is Trump Sauvignon Blanc made? It is estate-grown and produced at Trump Winery near Charlottesville, Virginia, in the Monticello AVA.

What foods pair well with Trump Sauvignon Blanc? Oysters, grilled shrimp, goat cheese, asparagus, herb-roasted chicken, sushi and salads with citrus vinaigrette all pair well with its crisp herbal profile.

What sizes does Trump Sauvignon Blanc come in? This listing is the standard 750ml bottle.

Is Trump Sauvignon Blanc worth the price? It is competitively priced for an estate-grown East Coast white and gives Sauvignon Blanc drinkers a fresh, balanced alternative to the usual New Zealand and California labels.

Why Trump Sauvignon Blanc?

Trump Sauvignon Blanc shows how well the variety has adapted to Virginia, where warm days and cool mountain nights produce citrus and herbal aromatics with genuine freshness. Made clean in stainless steel and bottled young, it is a wine built for warm weather, seafood and salads, and it offers a middle path between the pungent New Zealand style and the softer California one. Estate grown on one of the largest vineyards on the East Coast, it is easy to find, fairly priced and a pleasant surprise for anyone who has not yet tasted Virginia white wine.
