Description

Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz is the flagship red from Soul Tree, an oak-aged Reserve Shiraz from the Nashik region of Maharashtra, India, in a 750ml bottle. Made from selected vineyard blocks and matured in oak barrels, it adds depth, structure and spice to the brand's signature Shiraz, while remaining soft enough to pair with the richest Indian dishes.

Quick Facts: Origin: Nashik, Maharashtra, India | Varietal: Shiraz / Syrah | Style: Dry Red Wine, Oak Aged Reserve | Producer: Soul Tree Wines

Production & Heritage

Soul Tree was founded by Indian-born entrepreneurs in the United Kingdom who set out to make wines that complement Indian cuisine rather than compete with it. Their vineyards are in Nashik, the heart of Indian wine, where the Deccan Plateau rises to around 2,000 feet above sea level and volcanic soils, warm days and cool winter nights suit Shiraz particularly well. The Reserve Shiraz is the top of the range: fruit is selected from the best-performing blocks, yields are kept lower for concentration, and the wine is fermented in small lots before aging in oak barrels for several months. The barrel time adds vanilla, toast and a firmer tannic frame to the grape's natural black pepper and dark fruit, producing a wine with more weight and complexity than the standard Shiraz. It is the bottle Soul Tree pours alongside slow-cooked lamb, rich kormas and festive feasts.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Blackberry, black cherry and plum compote, with cracked pepper, clove, vanilla, cedar and a hint of dark chocolate and smoke.

Taste: Full-bodied and layered, with concentrated dark fruit, warm baking spice and toasty oak, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and balanced acidity. The spice carries through the mid-palate.

Finish: Long and warming, with lingering black fruit, pepper, mocha and a touch of cedar.

How to Drink Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz

Serve Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz at around 62 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit in a large red wine glass, and decant for thirty minutes to open the oak and fruit. Pair it with the richest dishes on the menu: slow-cooked lamb shank curry, beef or lamb biryani and tandoori lamb chops. It also suits braised short ribs, aged cheeses and dark chocolate desserts, and it will develop for a few years in the cellar.

Best For

  • Festive Indian dinners and Diwali celebrations
  • Gifting a premium Indian wine with real depth
  • Rich lamb, beef and slow-cooked dishes
  • Shiraz collectors interested in an unusual origin

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz taste like? It tastes of blackberry, black cherry and plum compote with pepper, clove, vanilla and cedar, in a full-bodied, layered style with rounded tannins, balanced acidity and a long, spicy finish.

How does Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz compare to Soul Tree Shiraz? The standard Shiraz is lighter, fruitier and made for immediate drinking with everyday curries. The Reserve comes from selected blocks, sees more oak and has greater concentration, structure and length, suited to richer dishes and special occasions.

Is Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz good for aging? It drinks well now after a short decant and has the structure to improve for three to five years, which is unusual for an Indian wine at its price.

Where is Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz made? It is grown and produced in the Nashik region of Maharashtra, India, at around 2,000 feet above sea level on the Deccan Plateau.

What foods pair well with Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz? Lamb shank curry, rogan josh, biryani, tandoori lamb chops, braised beef, barbecue brisket, aged cheddar and dark chocolate all pair well with its rich fruit and spice.

What sizes does Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz come in? This listing is the standard 750ml bottle.

Is Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz worth the price? As the top wine from one of India's best-known export brands, it offers oak-aged depth and food-pairing intent at a price below most reserve-level Shiraz from Australia or California.

Why Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz?

Soul Tree Reserve Shiraz shows how far Indian wine has come. Selected fruit from the Nashik hills, lower yields and time in oak barrels produce a Shiraz with genuine concentration, layered spice and a long finish, while the house philosophy keeps the tannins ripe and the wine welcoming next to rich, spicy food. It is the natural choice for a festive Indian feast, a serious match for lamb and braised beef, and a memorable gift for anyone who thinks they have tasted every Shiraz. For its quality and its story, it earns its place as the brand's flagship.
