Description

Meiomi Chardonnay 375ML is a 375ml half-bottle of California Chardonnay blended from three coastal counties, bottled at 13.6% ABV. Scored 90 points by Wine Spectator (2013 vintage) and 91 points by Tasting Panel (2017 vintage), this multi-appellation white wine stands out for its layered, creamy profile built through 100% malolactic fermentation and French oak aging.

Quick Facts: ABV: 13.6%  |  Origin: Sonoma, Monterey & Santa Barbara Counties, California  |  Style: Multi-County Coastal Blend  |  Producer: Meiomi Wines (Constellation Brands)

Production & Heritage

Meiomi — meaning "coast" in the Wappo and Yuki languages of Northern California — was founded by winemaker Joe Wagner before being acquired by Constellation Brands. The Chardonnay grapes are sourced across Sonoma, Monterey, and Santa Barbara counties, each contributing distinct characteristics: Sonoma lends structure, Monterey brings bright acidity, and Santa Barbara adds tropical richness. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with minimal intervention, followed by full malolactic conversion and aging on French oak. Lees stirring during aging develops the wine's signature creamy, velvety mouthfeel. Current winemaker Jason Becker oversees the blending program that unifies these regional expressions into a single cohesive wine.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Ripe pear and fresh peach emerge first, followed by bright citrus zest and a hint of baking spice. Beneath the fruit, subtle almond and honey notes develop as the wine opens in the glass.

Taste: The entry is smooth and opulent, with pineapple and lemon peel leading the mid-palate. Layers of honey, custard, and warm baking spice build toward a rich peak without becoming heavy. Succulent acidity keeps the full body in check, while waxy tannins add textural complexity and a touch of pleasant grip.

Finish: Medium in length with a clean, mineral-driven close and lingering sweetness. Traces of citrus peel and toasted almond persist through the final notes.

How to Drink Meiomi Chardonnay

This Chardonnay drinks well slightly chilled to around 50–55°F, where the oak-driven richness and fruit aromatics come into balance. Serving it neat in a standard white wine glass allows the layered bouquet to develop fully. The wine's creamy weight and tropical character also make it a strong base for white wine cocktails: try it in a White Wine Spritzer where the pear and citrus notes brighten with sparkling water; a California Sangria built with stone fruits that echo the peach and pineapple already present; or a French 75 variation substituting this Chardonnay for still wine to add body and honey-like sweetness to the classic template.

Best For

  • Hosting a tasting flight comparing California Chardonnay styles
  • Adding to a gift basket or picnic spread alongside cheese and charcuterie
  • Sampling a new-to-you label without committing to a full bottle

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Meiomi Chardonnay taste like? Meiomi Chardonnay delivers a rich, creamy profile dominated by ripe pear, pineapple, and lemon peel, layered with honey, almond, and baking spice from French oak aging. Full malolactic fermentation gives it a velvety mouthfeel, balanced by bright acidity and a clean, mineral-driven finish.

How does Meiomi Chardonnay compare to Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay? Both are widely available California Chardonnays at a similar price tier, but Meiomi leans richer and more oak-influenced thanks to its full malolactic fermentation and lees stirring, while Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve tends toward a brighter, more fruit-forward style with moderate oak. Meiomi's multi-county blending from three specific coastal appellations also gives it a broader flavor spectrum than Kendall-Jackson's multi-appellation approach.

Is Meiomi Chardonnay good for sipping neat? Yes — its creamy texture, layered fruit, and balanced acidity make it enjoyable on its own, especially when served slightly chilled to 50–55°F to let the aromatics open without muting the oak complexity.

Where is Meiomi Chardonnay made? Meiomi Chardonnay is produced in California using 100% Chardonnay grapes sourced from vineyards across three coastal counties: Sonoma, Monterey, and Santa Barbara. The multi-county blending approach draws on the distinct climate and soil characteristics of each region.

What foods pair well with Meiomi Chardonnay? Its creamy weight and balanced acidity pair naturally with roasted chicken or turkey, where the honey and baking spice notes complement golden-skinned poultry. Lobster or crab in butter sauce echoes the wine's richness. Aged Gruyère or triple-cream Brie mirror its creamy texture. Pasta in a light cream or brown butter sauce works well, and roasted pear or stone fruit desserts harmonize with the wine's dominant fruit character.

What sizes does Meiomi Chardonnay come in? Meiomi Chardonnay is available in a standard 750ml bottle and this 375ml half-bottle format, making it convenient for smaller occasions or sampling.

Is Meiomi Chardonnay worth the price? Meiomi Chardonnay positions in the accessible-premium tier of California Chardonnay, sitting above basic supermarket whites but below single-vineyard bottlings. Scores of 90–91 points from Tasting Panel and Wine Spectator across multiple vintages suggest consistent quality that justifies the step up from entry-level options.

Why Meiomi Chardonnay?

The defining feature of this wine is its tri-county blending strategy, which pulls distinct flavor contributions from Sonoma, Monterey, and Santa Barbara into a single glass. That approach, combined with full malolactic fermentation and French oak aging with lees contact, produces a Chardonnay with more textural depth than most wines at this price point. Consistent critical recognition — including 91 points from Tasting Panel and 90 points from Wine Spectator — reinforces that the winemaking execution matches the ambition of the sourcing. The 375ml format makes it especially practical for drinkers who want the full Meiomi experience in a single-serving size.
