Production & Heritage
Canadian Mist is produced at the Canadian Mist Distillery in Collingwood, Ontario, now under the ownership of the Sazerac Company. The whisky is triple-distilled through continuous column stills using a mashbill of corn, rye, and barley malt — with corn sourced from within 100 miles of the distillery, rye from Ontario, and barley malt from Alberta. All production water is drawn from Georgian Bay, one of North America's largest freshwater reservoirs, and the Master Blender finishes the blend with a touch of sherry from a neighboring vineyard to introduce a delicate fruit character.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: The nose opens with toffee sweetness and vanilla before shifting to grassy, grain-forward notes. A light citrus brightness and subtle resinous, nutty quality emerge with time in the glass.
Taste: On entry, the palate is soft and sweet with caramel and vanilla leading the way. At mid-palate, rye grain spice and a hint of dark fruit arrive, balanced by a gentle earthiness. The mouthfeel is light and clean, allowing the flavors to stay distinct without becoming heavy.
Finish: The finish is short to medium, with a crisp, cleansing quality. Bitter lemon zest and lingering vanilla are the last impressions, leaving a dry, refreshing close.
How to Drink Canadian Mist
Canadian Mist's light body and clean profile make it a straightforward sipper on the rocks, where a single ice cube opens up the vanilla and citrus notes without dulling the whisky. It also excels as a mixing whisky in classic cocktails. A Whisky Sour benefits from its citrus-forward character, which harmonizes naturally with fresh lemon juice. In a Highball, the clean finish keeps things crisp and sessionable with ginger ale or soda water. A Maple Old Fashioned takes advantage of its toffee sweetness, pairing well with maple syrup in place of simple syrup and a dash of Angostura bitters.
