Badel Pelinkovac Gorki Herbal Liqueur 1L

Badel Pelinkovac is the oldest and most famous Croatian herbal liqueur as well as the best-selling herbal liqueur in Croatia.

Badel Pelinkovac is produced according to a traditional maceration method where selected curative herbs, with the dominant herb Pelin (lat. Artemisia Absinthium), are soaked in basic liquid and after that left to age in wooden barrels. The herbs release their most valuable characteristics by aging for several weeks.  A part of the produced macerate is distilled in coppers and finally the distillate and the macerate are blended into Badel Pelinkovac.

Different Formula for U.S. market

The new shipment I ordered in 2025 looked weird. The consistency seemed watered down, it was lighter in color and lacked the usual sent of pelin. When I compared it with Pelinkovac bought in Croatia, it became apparent that they are selling a different formula in the USA, which contains artificial coloring. The Croatian Pelinkovac is all natural, thicker in consistency, darker in color and with distinct flavor and sent of Pelin.
This was such a disappointment to learn and it really goes to show that the same products in EU and USA are made worse and unhealthy for the U.S. market.
