Soju

Korea's signature spirit is lighter in proof than vodka and remarkably smooth, which is why it is so often shared at the dinner table. Traditional soju was distilled from rice, while most modern green-bottle soju is made from a neutral spirit of grains or starches, diluted with water and lightly sweetened.

Jinro Chamisul Fresh is the classic unflavored style, clean and crisp, made for pairing with Korean barbecue, fried chicken or spicy stews. Han Jan offers a wide range of fruit flavors, including Peach, Grape, Strawberry, Watermelon, Mandarin Orange and a creamy Yogurt, in both 375ML and 750ML bottles. 7 Drops adds a floral Lychee option.

Serve soju ice cold, straight from the fridge or freezer, in small shot glasses. Korean drinking etiquette encourages pouring for others rather than yourself, using two hands when pouring for an elder. Pace yourself, as the easy, mild taste can be deceptive.

Two popular serves: Somaek mixes a shot of soju into a glass of light lager. The Yogurt Soju cocktail combines soju with a cultured yogurt drink and lemon-lime soda over ice; Han Jan Yogurt gives a head start on that flavor. Fruit sojus also work well over ice with sparkling water.
