Quick Facts: ABV: 40%  |  Origin: Speyside, Scotland  |  Age: 15 Years  |  Distillery: Glendullan

Production & Heritage

Glendullan Distillery sits in Speyside's Dufftown and draws its process water from Goats Well Spring in the nearby Conval Hills. The distillery uses distinctive large onion-shaped copper pot stills designed to produce a characteristically light, delicate spirit with a green apple profile. Fermentation runs for 75 hours across a mix of eight larch and two stainless steel washbacks, feeding a 12-ton mash tun. The 15 Year expression matures predominantly in American oak ex-bourbon casks with a smaller portion spending time in European oak, adding dried fruit richness and spice complexity that distinguish it from the younger expressions in the Singleton range.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Traditional and exotic fruits arrive first — plum, ripe apple, and banana — followed by fresh grain and orange zest. Deeper inhales reveal salted toffee and a gentle malty sweetness.

Taste: The entry is full-bodied and honey-forward, with honey-drizzled grain forming a rich foundation. The mid-palate builds into a sweet fruit crescendo — dried figs, fresh orange peel, and white grape — layered with orange-blossom honey and flamed citrus. Plenty of malt runs through the entire progression, giving the whisky substantial weight.

Finish: Medium-to-long, with caramel and light toasty oak tapering into peppery spice. A gentle warmth lingers alongside smooth, rounded sweetness.

How to Drink Singleton 15

At 40% ABV, the Singleton 15 is exceptionally approachable neat, with enough body and complexity to reward slow sipping from a Glencairn glass. A few drops of water open up the citrus and fig notes further without thinning the texture. For cocktails, it works well in a Rob Roy, where its honeyed sweetness balances sweet vermouth beautifully; a Blood and Sand, where the fig and orange-peel character aligns naturally with cherry liqueur and orange juice; and a Penicillin, where its fruit-forward Speyside profile provides a clean canvas for ginger and honey-lemon.

Best For

  • Gifting a Speyside whisky enthusiast who appreciates well-aged single malts
  • After-dinner sipping alongside dessert or cheese courses
  • Building a Speyside age-statement collection alongside 12- and 18-year expressions
  • Introducing a wine drinker to Scotch — the fruit-forward, unpeated profile translates well

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Singleton 15 taste like? Singleton 15 delivers a full-bodied Speyside profile dominated by honey-drizzled grain, dried figs, orange-blossom honey, and fresh citrus peel. The finish is medium-to-long with caramel, toasty oak, and a touch of peppery spice.

How does Singleton 15 compare to Glenlivet 12? Both share a fruit-forward, approachable Speyside character, and tasters frequently note similarities between the two distilleries' house styles. However, the Singleton 15's additional three years of maturation and European oak influence contribute noticeably more dried fruit depth, body, and oak complexity than the lighter Glenlivet 12.

Is Singleton 15 good for sipping neat? Yes — the 40% ABV and full-bodied palate make it very drinkable neat, with enough layered fruit and malt complexity to hold attention across the entire pour.

Where is Singleton 15 made? Singleton 15 is produced at Glendullan Distillery in Dufftown, Speyside, one of Scotland's most concentrated whisky-producing towns. The distillery sources its water from Goats Well Spring in the Conval Hills.

What foods pair well with Singleton 15? The honeyed sweetness pairs naturally with aged Comté or Gruyère cheese; the dried fig notes complement charcuterie boards with prosciutto and dried apricots; the citrus profile works alongside smoked salmon or seared duck breast; and the caramel finish matches well with crème brûlée or apple tart.

What sizes does Singleton 15 come in? The standard widely available format is the 750ml bottle.

Is Singleton 15 worth the price? The Singleton 15 positions as a mid-range age-statement Speyside single malt, sitting between entry-level 12-year bottlings and more premium 18-year expressions. Its Grand Gold award from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and full-bodied 15-year profile represent strong value within this tier.

Why Singleton 15?

Fifteen years of maturation in both American and European oak casks give this expression a complexity that sets it apart from the crowded field of entry-level Speyside malts. Glendullan's onion-shaped stills produce a distinctively delicate spirit with a green apple character, and the extended aging transforms that lightness into layered honey, fig, and citrus depth without losing approachability. A Grand Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Gold at the New York International Spirits Competition validate what the palate confirms — this is a seriously well-made whisky. For drinkers looking for a step up from standard 12-year Speyside bottlings without entering ultra-premium territory, the Singleton 15 occupies an appealing middle ground with genuine substance behind it.
