Description

Glenfiddich Trio Pack 3/200ML is a collection of three 200ml bottles featuring Glenfiddich's 12 Year Old (43% ABV), 15 Year Old (40% ABV), and 18 Year Old (40% ABV) Speyside single malt Scotch whiskies. The 15 Year Old Solera earned Double Gold at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and the 18 Year Old took Gold at the 2013 International Spirits Challenge — making this set a curated progression through one of Scotland's most decorated distillery ranges.

Quick Facts: ABV: 43% (12 Yr) / 40% (15 Yr) / 40% (18 Yr)  |  Origin: Speyside, Scotland  |  Age Statements: 12, 15, 18 Years  |  Distillery: Glenfiddich, Dufftown

Production & Heritage

Glenfiddich, meaning "Valley of the Deer" in Gaelic, was founded in 1887 by William Grant in Dufftown, Speyside. All three expressions are distilled from 100% malted barley in copper pot stills, a process the distillery has refined for over 130 years. The 12 Year Old matures in American oak and European oak sherry casks; the 15 Year Old uses a distinctive Solera Vat system — installed in 1998 and never less than half full — where whisky aged in sherry, bourbon, and new oak casks is married in a single 35,000-litre vat for extraordinary consistency. The 18 Year Old undergoes a small-batch process with an additional period of marrying in Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks, producing its notably deeper character.

Tasting Notes

Glenfiddich 12 Year Old

Aroma: Fresh pear and light floral notes open first, followed by subtle honey sweetness and a faint wisp of oak.

Taste: The entry is clean and fruity with ripe pear and green apple. Mid-palate, honeyed sweetness builds alongside a gentle malt backbone.

Finish: Medium in length with a clean, slightly oaky fade. A crisp, approachable close that stays light on the tongue.

Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera

Aroma: Rich dried fruit and warm spice lead, with undertones of honey and toasted oak developing beneath.

Taste: A silky entry gives way to concentrated dried fruit and baking spice at mid-palate. Dark toffee and a hint of cinnamon emerge as complexity builds.

Finish: Long and warming with lingering spice and dried fruit. The Solera-vatted blending delivers a remarkably smooth, rounded conclusion.

Glenfiddich 18 Year Old

Aroma: Ripe orchard fruit and baked apple dominate, supported by robust oak and a trace of dried flowers.

Taste: Luxuriously rich on entry, with baked apple and candied peel giving way to dates and cinnamon at mid-palate. The oak influence is present but never overpowering.

Finish: Velvety and long, with lingering warmth from oak and gentle dried fruit sweetness. A mature, composed conclusion that rewards patience.

How to Drink the Glenfiddich Trio

Each of these three expressions rewards neat tasting, ideally side by side to appreciate the progression from youthful brightness to aged depth. A few drops of water can open up the 18 Year Old in particular. Beyond neat sipping, the 12 Year Old works exceptionally well in a Highball — its light pear and honey notes pair naturally with soda and a citrus twist. The 15 Year Old Solera stands up beautifully in a Rob Roy, where its dried fruit and spice complement sweet vermouth. The 18 Year Old's baked apple richness makes it an excellent foundation for a Blood and Sand, balancing the cocktail's sweet cherry and orange elements.

  • Gifting a Scotch whisky enthusiast who appreciates aged Speyside malts
  • Hosting a guided tasting at home to compare age-statement expressions
  • Sampling before committing to a full 750ml bottle of one expression
  • Introducing someone to single malt Scotch through a structured progression

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Glenfiddich Trio taste like? The three bottles progress from the light pear and honey character of the 12 Year Old, through the rich dried fruit and spice of the 15 Year Old Solera, to the baked apple, date, and cinnamon depth of the 18 Year Old.

How does the Glenfiddich Trio compare to The Glenlivet 12? The Glenlivet 12 is Glenfiddich's closest global competitor and shares a similar approachable Speyside profile, but the Trio Pack offers three distinct age statements rather than a single expression, providing a wider spectrum of complexity and maturity.

Is the Glenfiddich Trio good for beginners? The 200ml format and ascending age statements make this one of the best entry points into single malt Scotch, allowing new drinkers to explore different levels of oak influence, fruit concentration, and complexity without a large commitment.

Where is the Glenfiddich Trio made? All three whiskies are distilled at the Glenfiddich distillery, located north of Dufftown in the Speyside region of Scotland — the area with the highest concentration of malt whisky distilleries in the country.

What foods pair well with the Glenfiddich Trio? The 12 Year Old pairs with smoked salmon, where its light honey notes complement the fish's richness. The 15 Year Old Solera matches well with aged cheddar or blue cheese, its dried fruit balancing the sharpness. The 18 Year Old stands up to dark chocolate desserts and crème brûlée, while all three complement roasted nuts and charcuterie boards.

What sizes does the Glenfiddich Trio come in? This set contains three 200ml bottles (600ml total), designed as a tasting collection rather than a full-size purchase.

Is the Glenfiddich Trio worth the price? The Trio Pack positions as a premium sampler set, giving access to three age-statement Speyside single malts — including the award-winning 15 Year Old Solera and 18 Year Old — at a lower total outlay than buying even one full-size bottle of the 18 Year Old.

Why the Glenfiddich Trio?

Few tasting sets carry this level of pedigree across all three bottles. The 15 Year Old's Solera Vat — a 35,000-litre vessel that has never been emptied since 1998 — is a production method virtually unique among Scotch whiskies, delivering a consistency and depth that earned Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The 18 Year Old's Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge confirms its standing among the best aged Speyside malts at its price tier. As a progression from entry-level brightness to mature complexity, this trio serves as both an education and an experience in what makes Glenfiddich one of the world's most awarded single malt distilleries.
