Heinz Eifel
The German labels tell you how ripe the grapes were at harvest, and roughly how sweet the wine will be. Kabinett (8.5% ABV) is light and off-dry, a great match for spicy Asian food. Spatlese means late harvest (7.5% ABV), riper and a little sweeter. Auslese (8% ABV) is made from select ripe bunches and is clearly sweet, good with fruit desserts or blue cheese. The Beerenauslese is a rich dessert wine made from botrytis-affected Silvaner grapes, so pour small glasses. Serve all of them well chilled. Browse more in our wine collection.
