Description

Skouras Zoe Rose is a dry Greek rosé wine from the Peloponnese, bottled at 12.5% ABV in a 750ml format. This blend of 70% Agiorgitiko and 30% Moscofilero has earned consistent international recognition, including a Gold Medal at Mundus Vini 2025 for the 2024 vintage and a Gold Medal at The Drinks Business Global Spring Master Tasting 2024 for the 2023 vintage.

Quick Facts: ABV: 12.5%  |  Origin: Peloponnese, Greece (PGI)  |  Dry Rosé  |  Producer: Domaine Skouras

Production & Heritage

Domaine Skouras was founded in 1986 by George Skouras, a Burgundy-trained winemaker who helped define modern Greek winemaking in the Peloponnese. The Zoe Rose draws its Agiorgitiko grapes from vineyards in Corinthia at approximately 2,132 feet elevation and its Moscofilero from the high plateau of Mantinia at around 2,400 feet—altitude that preserves natural acidity and aromatic intensity. The Moscofilero undergoes a carefully controlled six-hour skin contact at 16°C before both varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel vats. No malolactic fermentation is employed, and the wine rests briefly on fine lees, preserving bright fruit character and crisp structure.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: The nose opens with ripe cherries and fresh raspberries before moving into delicate rose petal and floral tones. Hints of sweet spice add subtle complexity beneath the fruit-driven aromatics.

Taste: On entry, vibrant cherry and strawberry flavors land with an almost crunchy freshness, supported by moderately high acidity. The mid-palate broadens into earthy raspberry with light sweet grass and citrus undertones. A faint suggestion of very ripe tannins from the Agiorgitiko gives the wine unexpected structure for a rosé.

Finish: Moderately long, with developing spice and citrus notes that build toward genuine complexity. The acidity carries through cleanly, leaving the palate refreshed rather than fatigued.

How to Drink Zoe Rose

Serve well chilled between 8–10°C to let the aromatics unfold gradually as the wine warms in the glass. This rosé also works beautifully as a cocktail component: try it in a Frosé, where its concentrated cherry fruit holds up to freezing; in a Rosé Spritzer with soda and a sprig of fresh rosemary, which amplifies its herbal spice notes; or in a French 75 variation replacing Champagne, where the wine's bright acidity and floral character complement gin and lemon.

Best For

  • Summer entertaining where a crowd-pleasing but distinctive rosé is needed
  • Introducing friends to high-quality Greek wine beyond the usual suspects
  • Pairing with Mediterranean mezze spreads at a dinner party
  • Gifting to a wine enthusiast exploring rosé beyond Provence

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Zoe Rose taste like? Zoe Rose delivers vibrant cherry and strawberry flavors with moderately high acidity, earthy raspberry undertones, and hints of sweet spice and citrus that carry through a moderately long finish.

How does Zoe Rose compare to Provence rosé? While Provence rosés typically lean toward pale, restrained profiles driven by Grenache and Cinsault, Zoe Rose shows deeper cherry-red color and more pronounced red fruit intensity from its Agiorgitiko base. The Moscofilero component adds a distinctly floral, aromatic dimension rarely found in Provençal blends.

Is Zoe Rose good for sipping on its own? Absolutely—its balance of ripe fruit, firm acidity, and moderate body makes it enjoyable as a standalone pour, especially when served well chilled on a warm day.

Where is Zoe Rose made? Zoe Rose is produced by Domaine Skouras in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece, using Agiorgitiko grapes from Corinthia and Moscofilero from the high-altitude Mantinia plateau.

What foods pair well with Zoe Rose? Grilled lamb chops benefit from the wine's earthy spice; spanakopita and other savory phyllo pastries mirror its herbal notes; fresh Greek salad with feta echoes its bright acidity; grilled octopus or calamari complement its Mediterranean character; and watermelon with halloumi plays off its ripe fruit and subtle salinity.

What sizes does Zoe Rose come in? Zoe Rose is widely available in the standard 750ml bottle.

Is Zoe Rose worth the price? Zoe Rose positions as an accessible, everyday-premium rosé that consistently punches above its price tier, as evidenced by multiple international gold medals against far more expensive competition.

Why Zoe Rose?

What separates Zoe Rose from the sea of summer rosés is the specificity of its sourcing: high-altitude vineyards in two distinct Peloponnesian sub-regions, each contributing a clearly defined role in the final blend. The Agiorgitiko brings structure, depth, and red fruit weight, while the Moscofilero—given its precise six-hour skin contact—delivers the aromatic lift and floral perfume that make this wine more than a simple sipper. A track record of gold medals at Mundus Vini, The Drinks Business Global Masters, and the International Rosé Championship across multiple vintages confirms its consistency. For anyone looking to step outside the Provence default without sacrificing quality or freshness, Zoe Rose makes a compelling, well-proven case for Greek rosé.
