Description
Trump Cabernet Sauvignon is a Virginia Cabernet Sauvignon from Trump Winery in the Monticello AVA near Charlottesville, in a 750ml bottle. Grown on one of the largest vineyards on the East Coast, it offers a cooler-climate take on Cabernet, with red and black fruit, fresh acidity and moderate oak rather than the heavy ripeness of warmer regions.
Quick Facts: Origin: Monticello AVA, Virginia, USA | Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon | Style: Dry Red Wine | Producer: Trump Winery
Production & Heritage
Trump Winery occupies the former Kluge Estate in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains south of Charlottesville, Virginia, a property purchased in 2011 and operated by Eric Trump. With roughly 200 acres under vine, it is among the largest vineyards in Virginia, in a region where Thomas Jefferson first tried to grow European grapes more than two centuries ago. The Monticello AVA has a humid continental climate with warm summers and well-drained clay and granite soils, and Cabernet Sauvignon here ripens later and shows more freshness than its California counterparts. The estate Cabernet is fermented in small lots and aged in French and American oak barrels, with the goal of expressing the site's brighter fruit and firm structure. Trump Winery also produces well-regarded sparkling wines, a Meritage blend and a range of still whites from the same estate.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Black cherry, red currant and plum, with cedar, dried herbs, green peppercorn and a touch of vanilla from the barrel.
Taste: Medium to full-bodied with fresh acidity, showing black cherry and cassis fruit, a savory herbal streak and firm but polished tannins. The oak is supportive rather than dominant.
Finish: Medium to long, dry and slightly earthy, with lingering dark fruit, tobacco and cedar.
How to Drink Trump Cabernet
Serve Trump Cabernet at around 62 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit in a Bordeaux glass, and decant for thirty to sixty minutes if the bottle is young. Its freshness suits a wide range of food: grilled flank steak or burgers, roast pork with herbs, mushroom risotto, or a cheese board with aged cheddar and Gouda. It is also a conversation piece for a Virginia-themed dinner alongside the estate's sparkling wines.

Why Trump Cabernet?
Trump Cabernet Sauvignon offers something most Cabernet drinkers have not tried: an estate-grown Virginia red from the region where American wine growing began. The Monticello AVA gives it fresh acidity, savory herbs and firm structure, a profile closer to Bordeaux than to Napa, and the winery's scale allows it to be priced for regular drinking. It pairs easily with grilled meats and roasts, and the name alone makes it a memorable bottle to bring to a dinner. For curiosity, for a Virginia tasting or for the table, it is a solid choice.
